If I’m being honest, when writing, I come across situations where I know exactly what to write and what comes next I just don’t know HOW to say it or how to describe that scene. It took me a lot of time and research but I finally found some of the Best Sites for Writers. Some of these sites came in handy for when I needed to describe scenes that weren’t really native to my genre of writing. Or just times when some words failed me or I just needed to run a simple wordplay.
Due to one search or the other, I came across these sites below and I have bookmarked them ever since. They are my go-tos and have never failed me.

1. Spwickstrom
When writing in third person or even first or second. I know it must get tiring to keep typing; ‘He said’, ‘She says’, or even ‘I replied’ for a little razzle dazzle when explaining a character’s speech. Well good news! Spwickstrom has you covered. With over 300 words to use instead of ‘said’, it even offers categories for the words to enable easy navigation for your choice of words.
2. Bryn Donovan
Oh where to begin. Bryn Donovan’s site is something I’d always recommend for writers. Bryn’s space is effortlessly relatable and his choice of words will leave you scrolling. However though, one of Bryn’s blog posts that’s I always find myself running back to is his How to describe Happiness . Whenever I need inspiration for describing such scenes, I always run back to his page and trust me, you won’t regret it.
3. Imagery Dictionary
I’m going to be honest. I’m not recommending the whole site because there is nothing much on it as of my last click on their blog. But one blog post of theirs that I urge to you tap is their How to describe sadness. It is a mixture of structured sentences that describes grief so accurately and would definitely incite some inspiration.
4. Writers helping Writers
For Writershelpingwriters, I’d definitely recommend the entire site, but one blog post of theirs that did help a lot with inspiration was their Emotion Thesaurus: Shock/surprise. It is a very detailed blog post and if you scroll down you’d find related and useful blog posts for you.
5. Merriam Webster
If you know the site already, you’d wonder why it’s relevant here. But trust me, it is. Merriam Webster is a dictionary site, but in my opinion it as different from any other dictionary site as it is unique. If you search up a word, say ‘silent’, it not only gives you the meaning(s) of that word but its synonyms, antonyms, near meanings, words related to it. And it’s not only for that one word, but each and every different meaning of that word. Very handy right? Especially when scenes that require synonyms or running wordplay.
6. Descriptionari
Writing prompts meets creative writing in Descriptionari . Useful for descriptions, discovering interesting writing prompts or just simply being a part of a wonderful writing community. Do check it out because it is a wonderful site.
7. Word Dreams
Ever heard this saying Save the best for last? Well if you haven’t, I’ve got you covered. Word dreams is an outstanding site by Jacqui Murray. Whatever aspect you think you might be stuck in writing, Word dreams will easily help you out. Check out this site and I promise you will leave with more inspiration than you came with. My favorite posts of theirs are;
Words lie, body language doesn’t.
And

Well, that sums it up! The list above encompasses all of my favorite snd recommended sites. Do check them out and don’t forget to check out the rest of my blog posts.
